Murray Williams, CEO/Chairman
Murray Williams serves as the board chairman and CEO of Affiliates Management Company (AMC) and has held this role since July 2018. In this position, he provides governance oversight and innovative leadership for BrightWise, Coopera, PolicyWorks Iowa, PolicyWorks, LLC and AMC FS, Inc. Murray also serves as the president and CEO of the Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL). Murray has been with AMC and its family of companies since 1996. He earned his Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation through the American Society of Association Executives and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Program. Murray received his MBA and a BA with honors from Iowa State University. He has served on the CUNA Strategic Services board along with other industry leadership roles. Murray has been inducted into the International Executive Volunteer Corps for the World Council of Credit Unions and is a recipient of the Leadership and Support Award by the Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals. He is former chairman of the national Public Relations Society of America's Association/Nonprofit Section and is active in his local community, including serving on the Des Moines Social Club board of directors.
Michael Powers, CFO
Michael Powers was named chief financial officer of AMC in June 2008. He has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry having held senior positions in several banking and insurance companies after beginning his career at the public accounting firm KPMG. He graduated with a bachelor of science in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and earned a CPA certificate.
Michelle Barker, General Counsel
Michelle Barker is the general counsel of AMC, where she provides company-wide contract management, human resource legal support, intellectual property strategies, and manages other legal and regulatory risk mitigation activities. Prior to joining AMC, Michelle was Assistant Vice President and Senior Counsel of Lincoln Financial Group where she worked for the past four years. Previously, she was VP and General Counsel of American Enterprise Group/American Republic Insurance, a diversified mutual insurance company based in Des Moines, where she worked in various leadership positions within their legal team over eight years. Prior to her time at American Republic, Michelle spent eight years as an attorney/partner at a small private practice in Des Moines. She holds her Juris Doctorate with distinction and BA from the University of Iowa.
Carrie Kompelien, Vice President, Human Resources
Carrie Kompelien is the VP, Human Resources of AMC. She is responsible for overseeing all human resources functions including benefits, compensation, employee development, employee relations, recruitment, payroll, legal compliance and policy review. Carrie has been part of the human resources team since 2002. Prior to joining the company, she worked for Dice.Com in a HR capacity. She earned her Strategic Professional in Human Resources Certification (SPHR) in 2008 from the HR Certification Institute and attained the SHRM Senior Certified Professional designation in 2015. Carrie received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University.
Matt Oakley, Vice President, Marketing
Matt Oakley is the VP, Marketing of AMC. He is tasked with providing leadership and strategic guidance for all marketing and communications functions at AMC. Prior to joining AMC, Matt was Chief Marketing Officer for B2E Data Marketing, where he lead strategic growth and branding initiatives. He has also served in past roles as CMO for TMG Financial Services, and lead marketing teams at Kreg Tool and Marsh. Matt holds a Master's Degree from Webster University and a Bachelor's Degree from Wayne State College.
Miriam De Dios Woodward, Senior Vice President & CEO, PolicyWorks, LLC
Miriam De Dios Woodward is a Senior Vice President of AMC and also serves as the CEO of PolicyWorks, LLC. In her role at PolicyWorks, she leads the team to provide unparalleled compliance and audit services to credit unions across the country. Prior to taking this role in 2018, Miriam was CEO of AMC company Coopera since 2012. Miriam earned her bachelor’s degree with honors from Iowa State University and her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa. She is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Leading Change and Organizational Renewal executive education program. Miriam currently serves on the board of trustees of Grand View University, the board of directors of the Food Bank of Iowa, Iowa State University's Women in Business Advisory Board, the Iowa Clearinghouse for Work-Based Learning Advisory Board and the Next Level Venture Fund II Review Board. Miriam was named the 2015 Latino Business Person of the Year by the League of Latin American Citizens, a 2016 Woman to Watch by Credit Union Times and she is a 2019 recipient of the Business Record's Forty Under 40 Award.
Justin Hupfer, Senior Vice President & CEO, PolicyWorks Iowa
Justin Hupfer is a Senior Vice President of AMC and is responsible for providing strategic guidance and leadership regarding public policy and regulatory affairs for all AMC companies. He also serves as the CEO of PolicyWorks Iowa. In this role, he is responsible for the overall operations, business development and achievement of client objectives for PolicyWorks Iowa. He previously served as Vice President of Government Affairs for the Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL), overseeing its federal and state government affairs activities and political action fundraising. Under Justin’s direction, ICUL’s political action committee and grassroots program consistently ranked among the most effective in the state. Prior to that, he worked on the Republican caucus staff in the Iowa House, staffing the House Commerce and Economic Development Committees. Justin received his law degree with honors from Drake University Law School and graduated from Grinnell College. He currently sits on the board of the Iowa Taxpayers Association and serves on the City of Johnston Board of Adjustment. Justin also served eight years as an officer in the United States Army Reserves, Judge Advocate General’s Corps, earning the rank of Captain.
Deb Madison-Levi, Director of Administration
Deb serves as Director of Administration for the Iowa Credit Union League and Affiliates Management Company In this role, she supports ICUL's CEO and manages ICUL and AMC governance matters. Deb previously served in a variety of roles in non-profit, state government and private sectors.
