“Thank you Governor Kim Reynolds and Secretary of State Paul Pate for taking swift action to empower credit unions to conduct crucial business for Iowans in a way that allows for the safety of members and employees alike during COVID-19. Our industry worked with stakeholders and elected leaders in 2019 to pass legislation enabling remote online notarization, which was set to take effect on July 1st. While we knew some Iowans had barriers to visiting their credit union in person when originally advocating for the legislation, none of us imagined the current situation. With mortgage rates recently at all-time lows and hundreds of transactions taking place daily, the Governor’s actions, along with the Secretary of State’s support, better position credit unions to help Iowans buy homes and refinance mortgages in a manner that is more safe during this difficult time.”
